"Honky Kong" or "White Apes Can't Hump" is the seventh episode of Season 1 of Black Dynamite.

Plot Summary[]

Black Dynamite, Bullhorn and Cream Corn brings Honey Bee to the circus to appreciate her a bit more, but in a parody of King Kong, a giant white gorilla falls in love with Honey Bee and abducts her. Now BD must save Honey Bee from Honky Kong before child service comes!

Plot Synopsis[]

Boner Afrikaner is driving a giant truck through the black community at night when he gets lost. Rallo and Rallo approach him and offer him help (and drugs), but when he insults them, they hijack his truck and drive off. At first, they think the truck is full of furs, but it turns out to be a giant white ape. It breaks free and grabs Rallo, but Rallo manages to subdue it by chucking a bag of quaaludes into the ape's mouth. Rallo has an idea of what they'll do with it: open a circus and name the ape Honky Kong!

Back at the Whorephanage, Black Dynamite, Bullhorn, and Cream Corn are enjoying their Sunday, sitting around drinking beer and watching the Lakers game. Honey Bee is increasingly upset at how they're not willing to help get the Whorephanage in order before Child Services comes tomorrow, and threatens to quit due to how unappreciated she feels. Black Dynamite offers to take her somewhere nice, but it's evidently somewhere he and the guys want to go to more than she does. She settles on going to the circus, where they see Honky Kong—and more importantly, Honky Kong sees her. He flies into a rage when he sees Cream Corn arguing with Honey Bee and thinks he's attacking her, so he breaks free and snatches her up. Black Dynamite calls up the Tuskegee Airmen to shoot down Honky Kong, but the ape is able to knock many of them out of the sky. Black Dynamite hops out of a plane and fights Honky Kong, causing him to flee with Honey Bee in tow.

While trying to get the Whorephanage in order, Black Dynamite snaps at Euphoria and confesses that he's under a lot of stress without Honey Bee to help. Boner Afrikaner drags Rallo and Rallo to the Whorephanage and recruits Black Dynamite to help track down Honky Kong. Cream Corn is left behind to deal with the imminent arrival of the Child Services worker, while the rest travel to the Mediterranean isle of Patmos. Honey Bee awakens in a cave to find Honky Kong treating her well and cooking dinner for her.

On the island of Patmos, Boner Afrikaner acts as the crew's guide, but gets devoured by a giant albino wolverine, which is devoured by a giant albino velociraptor, which is devoured by a giant albino spider, which is killed by Black Dynamite. They're then captured by a bunch of albino natives. At the Whorephanage, Cream Corn is propositioned by the elderly Child Services worker, telling him that she'll automatically pass his inspection if he fucks her. Honey Bee talks about her problems to Honky Kong, but after he begins seducing her, she tells him off for being horny and unappreciative of her like every other man in her life. She insults his dick size, causing him to fly into a rampage.

Black Dynamite and the crew are brought to an arena before Yakub, the black and giant-headed creator of all white life on the island, as well as white versions of celebrities like the Harlem Globetrotters, Bill Cosby, Sammy Davis Jr., and Dolly Parton (shocked at Rallo's claim that she was already white). He plots to turn Black Dynamite white and make him his servant, but suddenly Honey Bee bursts into the arena with Honky Kong is in hot pursuit. He smashes the blackness-extracting magnets, causing them to backfire and turn Yakub white. Black Dynamite defeats Honky Kong, who catches sight of Dolly Parton (who got covered in mud during the fight) and carries her off instead of Honey Bee. Black Dynamite apologizes for taking Honey Bee for granted, but she's more worried about who's watching the orphans.

Back at the Whorephanage, it's revealed that Cream Corn did in fact sleep wit the Child Services woman, at the expense of his dignity and some of his sanity.

Cultural References[]

  • King Kong:
    • The title "Honky Kong" is a reference to King Kong, as well as the Nintendo character Donkey Kong (who is also based on King Kong).
    • Many details of the episode's plot, about a giant ape who's captured from a mysterious island, displayed as a sideshow attraction, breaks free, and falls in love with a human woman, parallel the same basic story of all the King Kong movies.
    • Honky Kong is referred to as the "ninth wonder of the world." King Kong is referred to as the "eighth wonder of the world."
    • The white woman chained up in front of Honky Kong whom he promptly ignores is likely meant to be Ann Darrow, King Kong's object of affection.
    • The scene where Honky Kong fights the Tuskegee Airmen is a parody of a famous scene in the 1933 film where King Kong climbs atop the Empire State Building and fights a group of biplanes.
  • The title "White Apes Can't Hump" is a reference to the 1992 film White Men Can't Jump.
  • Rallo subdues Honky Kong with a bag of quaaludes, a brand of sedative with a strong reputation as a "party drug" (and Bill Cosby's date rape drug of choice). They went out of production in the 1980s after pressure from the United States government.
  • Black Dynamite, Bullhorn, and Cream Corn are evidently watching a game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics, as evidenced by their mentions of Wilt Chamberlain and John Havlicek.
  • The three-breasted whore at the circus is likely a reference to Total Recall (1990), where one of the most famous scenes features a three-breasted whore named Mary.
  • Honky Kong is shown climbing up the Watts Towers, a public art installation in LA's Watts neighborhood.
  • The Tuskegee Airmen were a real unit of black aviators who fought in World War II. The episode was produced shortly after the release of Red Tails, a film about the Tuskegee Airmen.
  • Black Dynamite refers to Boner Afrikaner as a "toubab," a slang term in West Africa for a white person or foreigner.
  • Boner Afrikaner calls Patmos a "land that time forgot."
  • Honky Kong's original name is "Nfumu," according to Boner Afrikaner. It means "white" in the Fang language, and was the original name of Snowflake, the world's only known albino gorilla.
  • Honky Kong is described as having "jungle love" for Honey Bee. "Jungle love" or "jungle fever" is a term to describe white people with a fetish for black people (usually white men for black women).
  • The scene of Black Dynamite traveling to Patmos parodies the Indiana Jones movies, showing a plane superimposed over an image of a map while a triumphant orchestral score plays. The same musical score appears when he swings along a vine.
  • Bullhorn remarks "Oh shit, the white man died first in line!" referring to the trope that in action and horror movies, the black character usually dies first.
  • Yakub and the Nation of Islam:
    • According to the NOI, Yakub (identified with Jacob of the Bible) was a black scientist who lived 6,600 years ago and was responsible for breeding white people into existence as an inherently sinister and cruel race designed to dominate and subject black people.
    • His sensitivity to jokes about his head is a reference to the fact that the other people of Mecca apparently mocked him for his head size.
    • He also discovered the laws of magnetism as a child, hence why his inventions involve giant magnets.
    • Honky Kong specifically being creation of Yakub may be a reference to the NOI's belief that some white people tried to breed themselves back into being black people, but ended up becoming gorillas.
  • Yakub's judgement over the games in the arena, with thumbs up and thumbs down for sparing or executing an entertainer, resembles Emperor Commodus in Gladiator (2000).
