The Sarcastic Militant (formally credited as Militant 2) is a minor character in Black Dynamite known for reading all his stage directions like dialogue.

History[]

Events of the Film[]

The Sarcastic Militant is one of Saheed's revolutionaries at the community meeting with Congressman James. He returns with the rest of them to their hideout, where they're followed by Black Dynamite. He's evidently startled at Black Dynamite's arrival, and sarcastically claims he's the leader when Black Dynamite asks him who's in charge.

He and the other militants assist Black Dynamite in killing drug dealer, taking down Vincent Rafelli's mob, and decoding Congressman James's ledger of illicit dealings. He accompanies them on their raid of the warehouse, and helps the crew uncover the plot behind Operation Code Kansas.

During the assault on Kung Fu Island, he wields a grenade launcher and uses it to blow up trucks with Fiendish Doctor Wu's henchmen in them. He infiltrates the base with the rest of the crew, and during a lull in the action, he takes out a photo of his girlfriend Betty Jo. He's discussing his desire to retire from the revolution and start a family with her when a henchman throws a spear into his chest, killing him.

Trivia[]

  • The Sarcastic Militant's errors are deliberately included to give the film the appearance of a low-budget production where many of the actors aren't professional or experienced, and have little familiarity with how to read a properly formatted script.
  • Every time the Sarcastic Militant reads a stage direction as dialogue, Black Dynamite looks briefly off-screen as if to see whether the director will yell cut.
  • A character dying after talking about the life they want to live after they get home, especially if they announce their intent to retire or show a photo of a loved one, is a commonly parodied trope from action and war movies. Black Dynamite alludes to the cliché by saying "Who saw that coming?" right after his death.

Quotes[]

  • "Sarcastically, I'm in charge."
  • "You know, when we get back home, I'm gonna get back home, retire from the revolution, start a family. Shows picture. This is Betty Jo. Yeah, right on, yeah. Buy a home in the country, raise our own fruits and vegetables, bake our own bread, ya know what I mean? Bake our own- AAAAAAGH"
